The History

Bodega Bay was discovered by Don Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra while exploring the coast in 1775 on the Schooner "Sonora".

In the early 1800's Bodega Bay became a storage area for pelts, grain and agricutural products which were shipped to the bay area markets in sailing ships and steamers. Captain William Smith started the commercial fishing industry with the first fishing boat in Bodega Bay, a small sailboat. While it is no longer a warehouse area, the fishing industry has grown and prospered.

A seafood restaurant was established on the present Tides property in the 1920's...the first on the Sonoma Coast. In the tradition of the very first restaurant on this location, we take pride in our delicious dishes that have established The Tides as serving only the finest and freshest seafood available. Our own unloading and docking facilities enable us to bring you a large selection of fish, often caught and prepared the same day.

We hope you enjoy visiting and dining at The Tides Wharf & Restaurant.
